Strive for Excellence in Allergy and Asthma Care

Philosophy of Care

Our philosophy is to provide the highest quality, outcomes-focused, cost-effective medical care for adults and children who experience acute and chronic asthma, allergic diseases, and diseases/symptoms of the respiratory system.

Approach to Patient Care

Patient-focused care We develop treatment plans with patient-oriented components:

  • Patient empowerment by putting the patient in control of his/her disease
  • Education – facilitate understanding of the disease and its triggers, treatment options through one-on-one teaching, videos, handouts, and outside references
  • Identification, elimination, or avoidance of triggers
  • Regard for safety, effectiveness, and cost of treatments

We provide complete allergy and asthma diagnostic services such as:

  • Prick and Intradermal Skin Testing
  • Pulmonary Function Testing
  • Rhinolaryngoscopy (direct visualization of the nasal passages and voice box)
  • Medication Allergy Testing/Desensitization
  • Vaccine Testing/Desensitization
  • Oral Desensitization to Allergic Foods
  • Food/Preservative Challenge
  • Methacholine Challenge (diagnostic inhalation test for asthma)
  • Exercise Challenge
  • Fitness Testing

What Makes CAAC Different? – Our Commitment to Your Care!

Our surveys show that our patients trust and value our care:

  • Twice a year we ask our patients to “critique” our practice by answering a short survey.

Nine offices in Metro Denver, Fort Collins & Greeley:

  • Nine clinics – most are open Monday through Friday and three of our offices are also open Saturday morning.
  • Hours are generally 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM and we are closed for lunch from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM. Each clinic has varying allergy injection hours so please speak to the specific clinic staff for exact allergy injection office hours at that location or see our allergy injection hours handout

Locations and hours give ready access to care:

  • Our practice locations are distributed geographically throughout the Denver metropolitan area to increase our availability to patients, and offer Saturday and extended office hours. We utilize physician extenders including Physician Assistants (PAs) to improve access to same-day care.
  • In general, urgent and sick visits can be scheduled the same day.

Expertise in sinus conditions and allergy drops:

  • CAAC is proud to be innovators and leaders in the “cutting edge” of allergy care.
  • Evaluation and treatment of sinus conditions.
  • Allergy drops (sublingual immunotherapy).

Evaluations not readily found in the community:

  • CAAC is proud to offer “full service” evaluations and treatments not often found in the local or regional community. Many of these services are highly specialized and are not performed even in academic institutions
  • “Specialty” Testing and Challenges:
    • Asthma & Exercise Clinic provides diagnostic exercise testing to identify the cause of respiratory symptoms during exercise/physical activity. The goal is to encourage exercise/physical activity as a healthy life style and increase ones’ quality of life
      • Exercise Challenge – assessment to rule-out or confirm exercise-induced asthma and/or vocal cord dysfunction
      • Free run or treadmill
      • Differential diagnosis (e.g. level of exertion, aerobic capacity, exercise-induced reflux, post nasal drainage (PND) etc.)
      • Assesses effectiveness of pretreatment medications
      • Fitness Evaluation – assessment to measure aerobic capacity
    • Asthma & Exercise Brochure
  • Methacholine Challenge is a diagnostic test to determine whether or not you really have asthma.
  • Stepwise Challenges to medications, foods, and vaccines: this is done to determine whether or not you truly are sensitive.
  • Complete Lung Function testing: this is a procedure more complete than usual testing (spirometry) performed in most other allergist’s offices. It is reserved for patients with more severe asthma or COPD. Generally this test is only available in a hospital setting.
  • Nasal endoscopy: a flexible fiberoptic scope is used to more fully evaluate the nasal passages and assess prior sinus surgery. We can also obtain samples of nasal secretions for bacteria and fungus cultures.
  • Laryngoscopy: a flexible scope is to identify causes of many disorders of the voice box (e.g. cough, hoarseness, gastroesophageal reflux)
  • Desensitization to necessary medications and vaccines

Cost-Effective Approach to Care

We strive to reduce the total cost of long-term care of the patient. Our patient care process reduces the need for emergency care and hospital care services.

  • Provide a Step-Care approach to optimize Quality of Life.
  • Preventative care to avoid costly emergency room visits and hospitalizations
  • Comprehensive evaluations to reduce the need for more expensive procedures
  • Our goal is to use the least amount of medications to control disease/symptoms effectively without compromising quality of care.
